Chapter 4
A sound from the living room made them both freeze. Luna was moving before she'd fully processed the threat, her wolf reflexes taking over, but Marcus was faster, his vampire speed carrying him to the bedroom door.
"Stay here," he ordered, but Luna was already shifting, her human form dissolving into that of a massive silver wolf.
They moved through the apartment together, partners in every sense of the word. The intruder was waiting in the living room—a vampire Luna didn't recognize, but one whose scent carried the taint of old magic and fresh blood.
"Detective Kane," the vampire said smoothly. "I believe you have something that belongs to me."
Luna felt Marcus tense beside her. "And what would that be?"
"The werewolf bitch you've been screwing." The vampire's smile was cold. "She's been asking too many questions about my business."
"Your business?"
"The trafficking ring, of course. Did you really think you could interfere without consequences?"
The vampire moved faster than thought, but Luna was faster still. She leaped, her jaws closing around the intruder's throat, and Marcus followed up with a stake through the heart.
The vampire crumbled to dust, and Luna shifted back to human form, naked and magnificent and completely unashamed.
"Well," she said, surveying the mess. "That was easier than expected."
