In a world of superheroes, Jayesh Khatri is a healer who works in a hospital. When patients start arriving with feather patterns burned into their backs, Jayesh is drawn into the underworld of black market magic smuggling. But if he can take down the smugglers from the inside, it will keep his crush from fighting the formidible villain Omniscient and probably being killed.

Taylor and her best school friend Caleb live in comfortable and a little rural Frosty, Florida. Taylor is the editor of the Boca Del Rio Assisted Living Facility community newsletter. They’re buddies with local personalities Chance the Alligator and Dillon, an armadillo who loves beer.

Chloe Anderson is a physics student by day, a hard working, smart girl who's close with her mad scientist professor, working with him as a teacher's assistant. She also moonlights as the superhero, Meta-Girl. Johnny Benvinutti comes from a well-established Italian crime family, and recently found he has the ability to shoot lightning from his hands. The crime-fighting duo of King Ace and Fazer are true heroes, not vigilantes, as Fazer explains the difference to a reporter interviewing him for the Avalon Sentinel. A hero doesn't expect thanks or payment, he helps people because it is the right thing to do. And a hero doesn't kill anyone, ever. All Fazer and the big guy are trying to do is make everyday life better for everyone who lives in their city. But even heroes face temptation.
