Chuck Dixon's unapologetic homage to the 50's movies he watched on the Early Show as a kid. He describes it as 'A real labor of love and a ball to write. Bad guys from outer space versus the US Air Force.' What's not to love? It also "inspired" the "surprise" ending of M. Night Shaymalan's movie Signs. Chuck is still waiting on his check. Lito Fernandez brings a real period feel to this limited series with his Frank Robbins/ Milton Caniff inspired artwork. We discovered multiple missing pages from the original Invasion '55 story, restored and reintegrated them into their rightful place, and are re-releasing the story in its restored glory.

The Night Watch panel 1

Danny Foster lay on the narrow RV bunk, staring at the ceiling as his mind replayed the evening's explosive sermon. His father's words about communist slaughter, media control, and financial manipulation echoed in his thoughts with prophetic authority that left him restless and unsettled. The weight of witnessing divine revelation delivered through his own father—a man who had taught him to operate precision machinery and throw a curveball—felt surreal beyond comprehension.

The soft breathing of his parents in the RV's master bedroom reminded Danny that despite everything supernatural surrounding their lives, they remained a family bound by love and shared purpose. Yet sleep eluded him as adrenaline from the evening's confrontations with Texas State Police continued coursing through his system.

At 2:17 AM, Danny quietly slipped from his bunk and pulled on jeans and his Texas Rangers hoodie. The early March air carried a cool bite that made the extra layer necessary, though spring's arrival had begun to soften winter's harsh edge. He needed air, movement, and time to process the magnitude of events unfolding around them. The fire barrier provided complete protection within its perimeter, making a late-night walk both safe and appealing.

Stepping outside, Danny felt the crisp spring air against his face while the supernatural flames cast dancing shadows across the stadium complex. A gentle breeze carried the scent of new growth from distant trees beginning to bud, mixing earth's renewal with the otherworldly presence of divine fire. The barrier burned with consistent intensity, neither consuming fuel nor generating heat, yet providing light sufficient for navigation around the entire perimeter.

Walking toward the eastern entrance, Danny spotted Allen Brown sitting in a folding chair, maintaining his security vigil despite the late hour. The veteran law enforcement officer looked up as Danny approached, offering a tired but genuine smile.

"Can't sleep either?" Allen asked, gesturing toward an empty chair beside him.

"Dad's sermon keeps running through my head," Danny replied, settling into the offered seat and pulling his hoodie tighter against the cool breeze. "Hard to process everything that's happening."

Allen nodded knowingly. "Twenty years in law enforcement, and I've never seen anything like this. Divine fire, resurrections, supernatural healings, prophetic sermons that challenge everything we think we know about the world. Makes you question what's real and what's propaganda."

Danny studied the older man's weathered face, recognizing the struggle between professional skepticism and witnessed miracles. "What do you think about tonight's message? The stuff about Jewish influence and communist connections?"

Allen was quiet for a long moment, choosing his words carefully. "Your father spoke with authority I've never heard before. Whether people accept it or reject it, no one can deny he's not speaking from his own understanding. There's something beyond human knowledge operating through him."

They stood in comfortable silence, both men contemplating the spiritual significance of their circumstances. The fire barrier continued its steady burn, creating an island of divine protection in a world increasingly hostile to their message.

"You should try to get some rest," Allen suggested after several minutes. "Tomorrow's going to bring new challenges, and you'll need your strength."

Danny appreciated the advice but felt drawn to continue walking. "I think I'll make a circuit around the stadium first. Maybe that'll tire me out enough to sleep."

"Be careful," Allen cautioned, though both men knew nothing could threaten them within the barrier's protection. "Stay inside the perimeter."

Danny began his solitary walk along the concrete jersey barriers, following the supernatural flame wall that marked the boundary between divine protection and earthly hostility. The stadium's bulk loomed to his right while the fire provided steady illumination for his midnight patrol. The cool spring air felt refreshing against his skin, carrying hints of the seasonal change that would soon transform the Texas landscape.

Moving at a leisurely pace, Danny reflected on his transformation from high school graduate learning the family business to son of God's anointed prophet. The responsibility felt overwhelming—supporting his father's divine mission while maintaining normalcy for their extended family.

As he rounded the stadium's northwestern corner, motion in the distance caught his attention. A dark shape moved against the night sky, approaching from beyond the commercial district's roofline. Danny stopped walking, his breath creating small puffs in the cool air as he focused intently on the aerial object.

The approaching helicopter's configuration immediately struck him as military rather than civilian. Its angular profile, darker coloration, and purposeful flight pattern differed markedly from police and news helicopters that had circled during previous days. This aircraft moved with stealth, staying low between buildings to avoid detection.

Danny's pulse quickened as he realized this represented a new escalation in opposition to his father's ministry. The Texas State Police had established a perimeter, but military involvement suggested federal intervention at levels requiring serious force authorization.

As the helicopter drew closer, additional movement caught Danny's peripheral vision. Bright reflective material glinted in the fire barrier's light as multiple figures approached the stadium's perimeter at high speed. Their metallic appearance and coordinated movement patterns indicated professional tactical deployment.

Danny counted at least six men in what appeared to be specialized protective suits, carrying equipment that looked distinctly military in nature. Their rapid approach toward the jersey barriers suggested they intended to breach the perimeter simultaneously with the helicopter's arrival.

The coordination between air and ground assets indicated sophisticated planning and resources far beyond local law enforcement capabilities. Danny realized he was witnessing a federal operation designed to eliminate his father and destroy the ministry through overwhelming force.

Yet even as fear gripped his heart, Danny remembered the archangel's promise of divine protection and his father's absolute confidence in God's preservation of His chosen messenger. The fire barrier had already demonstrated lethal effectiveness against hostile intruders.

The helicopter approached to within fifty yards of the stadium's northern edge, its rotor wash creating dust clouds and debris scattered by the aircraft's downwash. Danny could see the pilot through the cockpit windscreen, focused intently on his approach pattern.

Suddenly, brilliant light erupted from the fire barrier as flames shot skyward with tremendous force, creating a towering inferno that reached hundreds of feet into the night air. The helicopter, caught in this supernatural eruption, vanished instantly in a massive fireball that illuminated the entire stadium complex like artificial daylight.

Danny threw his hands up to shield his face from the intense light as the explosion's heat wave washed over him, the warmth cutting through the cool spring air. The fireball expanded outward and upward, consuming the aircraft so completely that no debris fell to earth. Within seconds, the flames contracted and disappeared, leaving no trace of the helicopter's existence.

Simultaneously, the men in reflective suits had reached the jersey barriers and attempted to leap over them into the protected area. The moment they crossed the perimeter, the divine fire consumed them with the same devastating efficiency that had destroyed their aerial support.

Danny watched in horrified fascination as each figure burst into screaming flames before vanishing completely. Their protective suits, designed to withstand extreme heat and chemical exposure, provided no defense against supernatural fire that burned with divine judgment rather than natural combustion.

The entire engagement lasted less than ten seconds from the barrier's eruption to the complete destruction of all hostile forces. Of the helicopter and its crew, the tactical team and their equipment, nothing remained but the memory of their incineration.

As the fire barrier returned to its normal height and intensity, Danny noticed that the burning crosses within the flames appeared brighter and more numerous than before, as if divine power had been strengthened by successfully defending God's anointed prophet.

The silence following the supernatural destruction felt profound and holy. No sirens wailed in the distance, no emergency vehicles raced toward the scene, no debris littered the ground. The attack had been erased from existence as completely as if it had never occurred.

"Danny! Danny, are you all right?" Allen Brown's voice cut through the silence as the security chief came running from the eastern entrance, his face etched with concern and amazement. "I saw the whole thing from my post—the helicopter, the men in suits, the barrier erupting like that. Are you hurt?"

Danny turned toward Allen, his legs suddenly feeling unsteady as the magnitude of what he'd witnessed fully hit him. "I'm okay," he managed, his voice hoarse with emotion. "I saw it all. They were coming to kill Dad, weren't they?"

Allen reached Danny and placed a steadying hand on his shoulder. "That was a full tactical assault, son. Military helicopter, specialized equipment, coordinated attack pattern. Someone with serious resources wanted your father dead tonight."

"But God protected him," Danny said, his voice gaining strength. "Just like the angel promised. Nothing formed against him will prosper."

Allen nodded grimly. "I've never seen anything like it. Complete destruction, no trace left behind. This was divine intervention on a scale that defies explanation."

Danny suddenly felt an urgent need to share what he'd witnessed with his parents. "I need to tell Dad and Mom what happened. They need to know."

"Go ahead," Allen encouraged. "I'll maintain watch out here and document everything in my security log. This escalation changes things—we're dealing with federal forces now, not just state police."

Danny jogged back toward his family's RV, his mind racing with the implications of the night's events. The cool spring air helped clear his thoughts as he prepared to wake his parents with news of yet another miraculous deliverance.

Quietly entering the RV, Danny approached his parents' bedroom and gently knocked on the door frame. "Dad? Mom? I need to tell you something important."

John Foster appeared almost immediately, alert despite the early hour. "What is it, son?"

"There was an attack," Danny said, his words tumbling out rapidly. "Military helicopter, men in fire suits with automatic weapons. They came from the south while I was walking the perimeter. The fire barrier erupted straight up into the sky and completely destroyed them all. Nothing's left, Dad. Nothing at all."

Marissa joined her husband in the doorway, her face pale with concern. John placed a protective arm around his wife while processing Danny's report with remarkable calm.

"How many men?" John asked with the measured tone of someone accustomed to supernatural protection.

"At least six on the ground, plus the helicopter crew. They coordinated the attack—tried to breach the perimeter just as the aircraft arrived. The barrier consumed them all in seconds."

John nodded gravely. "The Lord protects His servants. This won't be the last attempt, but none will succeed. God's work will be completed regardless of earthly opposition."

Marissa reached out to embrace her youngest son, tears of gratitude and fear mingling in her eyes. "Thank God you weren't hurt. Thank God for His protection over all of us."

"Allen saw it too," Danny added. "He's documenting everything for the security records."

John squeezed his son's shoulder with paternal pride. "You did well staying calm and observing everything. These events must be recorded so others will know how God defended His prophet against His enemies."

The family shared a moment of quiet thanksgiving, recognizing they'd witnessed another miraculous intervention in their extraordinary calling. The weight of divine protection settled over them like a blessing, confirming their mission's importance and God's faithfulness to His promises.

"Try to get some rest now," John advised gently. "Tomorrow will bring new challenges, and we'll need our strength for whatever God calls us to face."

Danny nodded, feeling exhaustion finally overtaking the adrenaline that had sustained him through the night's drama. He embraced both parents, drawing comfort from their steady faith and unshakeable confidence in divine protection.

Returning to his bunk, Danny pulled off his hoodie and settled under the covers, his body finally ready for sleep. The cool spring air drifted through the RV's slightly open windows, carrying scents of renewal and new life that seemed to promise hope despite the darkness arrayed against them.

As consciousness faded, Danny offered one final prayer of gratitude for witnessing God's miraculous protection, knowing that whatever challenges tomorrow brought, their divine commission would not be hindered by any power on earth. Sleep claimed him completely—deep, dreamless, and restorative—the sleep of those who rest secure in the shadow of the Almighty's wings.
