Danny Foster stood at the window of his family's RV, watching in horrified fascination as the final remnants of Michael Mattis disappeared into nothingness. The supernatural fire barrier had erupted with such intensity that even from a hundred yards away, Danny had felt the spiritual power radiating from the divine flames. The Twitch streamer who had boasted about murdering his father had been consumed so completely that not even smoke remained to mark where he had stood.
"Dad," Danny called softly, his voice tight with emotion, "you won’t believe what I just saw.”
John Foster emerged from the small bedroom where he had been reviewing his sermon notes for the third day's event. His face was grave but unsurprised as he joined Danny and Marissa at the window, watching Allen Brown cautiously approach the spot where the incineration had occurred.
"I felt it happen," John said quietly. "The spiritual atmosphere around this place just shifted. That man's destruction has awakened something dark, and I fear what's coming next."
Marissa took her husband's hand, her face pale but resolute. "John, tonight's sermon..."
"Will proceed as planned," John finished. "The Lord commissioned me to deliver His messages regardless of earthly opposition. Tonight's topic was chosen months ago—the history of the Jewish people, ancient and modern. It will be explosive enough without the added drama of what just occurred."
Danny felt a chill run down his spine. He had read portions of his father's sermon about the Jews, and he knew it would generate massive controversy even under normal circumstances. Combined with the viral footage of Michael Mattis being consumed by divine fire, tonight's event promised to be unlike anything they had experienced so far.
A sharp knock on the RV door interrupted their discussion. John opened it to reveal Jackson Simeon, whose face carried the grim expression of someone bearing unwelcome news.
"John, we have a problem," Jackson began without preamble. "I just got off the phone with the governor of Texas. He's demanding an immediate end to the event and insisting that the fire barrier be shut down."
John's expression remained calm, but Danny could see tension gathering in his father's shoulders. "What did you tell him?"
"That the fire barrier stays up until the event ends Sunday night, not before," Jackson replied. "He wasn't pleased. He said we can expect a visit from the state police, who will shut down the event and arrest anyone who interferes."
John nodded as if he had been expecting this development. "Thank you for standing firm, Jackson. When the state police arrive, inform me immediately. I'll deal with them."
As Jackson left to coordinate security preparations, Danny felt his stomach tighten with apprehension. The confrontation with the Robber Baron had been tense but ultimately harmless. A visit from armed state police officers represented a far more serious escalation.
"Dad, what are we going to do?" Danny asked.
John sat heavily in the RV's small living area, his expression thoughtful. "We're going to trust in the Lord's protection and continue with His work. The same God who established this fire barrier will determine how this confrontation ends."
An hour later, the distant sound of sirens began echoing across the Dallas landscape. Danny could see a helicopter circling overhead, its cameras undoubtedly capturing footage that would soon appear on every news network in the country. The mainstream media embargo had collapsed with Michael Mattis's incineration, and now the world was watching Dallas with unprecedented attention.
John walked to the center of the RV encampment, where ministry staff had begun gathering with obvious concern. Danny followed his father, watching as the man who had been a successful businessman transformed into God's anointed prophet.
"Brothers and sisters," John called out, his voice carrying the authority that had commanded respect in boardrooms and now commanded attention from supernatural realms. "We are about to face a test of our faith and commitment to the Lord's work."
The assembled staff—security personnel, technical crew, band members, and support staff—listened with rapt attention as John continued.
"I want all staff to remain inside the fire barrier at all times. Close the western entrance completely and staff the eastern entrance only from within the protected area. No one is to cross the barrier for any reason unless I personally authorize it."
Allen Brown stepped forward. "Sir, what about law enforcement? They'll likely demand we surrender our weapons and submit to arrest."
John's expression was serene despite the gravity of the situation. "The same fire that protects us from spiritual enemies will protect us from earthly ones, assuming our hearts remain right with God. Stay faithful, stay prayerful, and trust in divine protection."
He bowed his head briefly, offering a prayer that Danny could barely hear but whose power seemed to settle over the entire encampment like a protective blanket. As the staff dispersed to their assigned positions, Danny felt a strange mixture of fear and anticipation.
A convoy of six Texas State Police vehicles approached the stadium's perimeter, followed by a large van with official markings. Danny counted at least twenty officers emerging from the vehicles, all wearing body armor and carrying weapons. The sight of so much official firepower arrayed against his father's ministry was both terrifying and surreal.
Two officers approached the eastern entrance while the others maintained positions fifty feet back, clearly wary of the supernatural fire barrier that continued to burn with its characteristic white intensity. Danny noticed that none of the officers seemed eager to get too close to the flames, despite their official authority and superior numbers.
Anthony Foster, dressed in his typical lawyerly suit and tie, walked to the entrance from within the protected area but stopped well short of crossing the fire barrier. His legal training was evident in the careful way he positioned himself to communicate with the officers while remaining under divine protection.
"Officers, I'm Anthony Foster, attorney for John Foster Ministries," he called out. "May I ask why you're here?"
The lead officer, a stern-faced man with captain's bars, stepped forward. "I'm Captain Chavez with the Texas State Police. We're here under orders from the governor to shut down this event immediately. The fire barrier must be extinguished, and all persons inside must surrender for questioning."
Anthony's response was professionally diplomatic but firm. "Captain, this is a legally permitted religious event. We have valid contracts, proper insurance, and have violated no laws. The fire barrier will remain in place until the event concludes Sunday evening."
"Sir, we have orders to—"
"I understand your position," Anthony interrupted politely, "but I'm afraid those orders exceed your legal authority. If you wish to speak with John Foster directly, I can arrange that."
Danny watched his brother handle the confrontation with impressive composure. Anthony had always been the most diplomatic of the Foster sons, but this situation tested even his considerable skills at negotiation and de-escalation.
Captain Chavez spoke briefly with his fellow officers before turning back to Anthony. "We need to speak with John Foster immediately."
Anthony nodded and walked back to the RV encampment. Danny accompanied his brother as they knocked on their father's door and explained the situation.
John emerged from the RV with the same calm dignity he had shown throughout the ministry events. He walked beside Anthony toward the eastern entrance, his bearing suggesting a man at peace with whatever confrontation awaited him.
Rather than wait for the officers to speak, John took the initiative as soon as he reached the fire barrier. "Captain Chavez, I assume you can read," he said, gesturing toward the sign posted beside the entrance: "THE FLAMES BURN ONLY THE ENEMIES OF GOD."
"Sir, you need to shut down this barrier and surrender yourself for questioning," Captain Chavez replied, his voice carrying official authority that seemed somehow diminished by the supernatural circumstances.
John's response was delivered with quiet certainty. "Captain, I advise you to consider your next actions carefully. This barrier will burn anyone who attempts to cross it with evil intent. Your uniform and authority will provide no protection against divine judgment."
The captain's face flushed with anger at what he perceived as a threat. "Mr. Foster, I'm ordering my officers to enter this area and place you under arrest. Any resistance will be met with appropriate force."
John remained completely calm in the face of the threat. "That is your choice to make, Captain. But I warn you—the same fire that consumed the man who murdered me will consume anyone else who approaches with similar intent."
Captain Chavez spoke into his radio, presumably requesting guidance from his superiors. After several minutes of back-and-forth communication, he turned back to John with obvious frustration.
"Mr. Foster, if you won't surrender, then we're establishing a perimeter around this facility. No one will be allowed to approach the stadium. Your event is effectively canceled."
John's expression didn't change. "The event will proceed as planned, Captain. If you choose to prevent an audience from attending, that's between you and God. But His word will be proclaimed whether anyone else is present to hear it or not."
As the state police began positioning vehicles to block all approaches to the stadium, Danny felt a mixture of pride and apprehension. His father was standing firm against governmental authority, trusting completely in divine protection. But the sight of armed officers surrounding their position made the danger terrifyingly real.
John gathered the ministry team together one final time as the police cordon tightened around them. "Brothers and sisters, inform the world that while there may be no physical audience for tonight's event, God's message will still be delivered. The livestream will continue, and those who have ears to hear will receive what the Lord has prepared for this generation."
Danny looked around at the faces of the people who had committed themselves to his father's divine mission. Fear was evident in some eyes, but determination shone in all of them. They had witnessed too much supernatural power to doubt God's protection now.
To the surprise of no one present, the electricity suddenly switched off. Forty-five seconds later, the backup generators in containers that Jackson Simeon had rented, came on and a few seconds after that, the electricity of the stadium was restored.
The siege of Robber Baron Stadium had begun, but John Foster's ministry would not be silenced.
